M T V Awards Belfast

Belfast is bracing itself for an invasion of some of the biggest names in pop music ahead of this weekend’s MTV EMAs.

Ladygaga

With both the George Best City and Belfast International airports on standby for the arrival of private jets and commercial flights carrying many of the artists, several have already touched down early to prepare for the star-studded event at the Odyssey Arena this Sunday.

Bruno Mars

Fifteen years ago, most musicians avoided Belfast – now it’s hosting the MTV European Music Awards.

Red hot chili peppers

On Sunday, Lady Gaga, Jessie J and Justin Bieber are set to stroll down a red carpet in Northern Ireland, on their way in to MTV’s European Music Awards.

Coldplay

The ceremony lands in a different city every year but, for Belfast, MTV’s presence means something special.

Queen – minus one

Belfast’s a great city. It’s got a great heritage of music. And they’ve put on a music week in the run-up to our show, which not only gets everyone ready, but also highlights the breadth and wealth of local talent.

Snow Patrol

Two Door Cinema Club are one of the latest bands to emerge from Belfast.

Selena Comez

That music week entails 170 shows in 48 venues across the city – from local heroes like Ash and The Divine Comedy, to up-and-coming acts like The Voodoos, Cashier No 9 and VerseChorusVerse.

Justin Bieber

It’s a sign that, as well as attracting world-class acts to the city, Northern Ireland is increasingly confident about its home-grown talent.

  1. Sounds like it’s going to be amazing – some top artists/bands there (and one or two I don’t know/haven’t listened to). Great that you are into the event but I suspect you’re into music anyhow, think I’ve read that in another post of yours that you’re musical? Write and tell us more after the event – tell us about the impact it had on Belfast, would make a great follow-up.

  2. We are both going into town tomorrow for a few hours, we will see the crowds and the young girls trying to spot the stars, they started at 4am this morning Friday.

  3. Sounds like great fun! What a coo for Belfast!

  4. RedHotChiliPeppers AND Queen – I am sooooooo jealous right now…

    • Jo, There are so many big name stars the post would be about 4 times longer, people are going to have a great 3 days of music, and 70% of it is outdoors and free.

Snowpatrol are giving a free gig outside the City Hall at 9pm on Sunday, the kids will be down from 7am 😆

  5. What a line-up! I’m a big fan of Coldplay!

    Guess you’ll have a blast! 🙂

  6. Queen minus one????
Somehow one wonders what that will be like.

  7. I grew up in the days when the big stars all came to Belfast, before they all started staying away.

This is terrific – knowing they are all coming again

  8. You might want to put your head in a bucket to dim the the screaming girls around you when Bieber passes by. 😉

RHCP, I’m jealous. Will you be heading out to see them perform?

  9. Harry, I’m impressed. I hardly know any of these performers. You’re up on the hip music scene–cool, Dude! 😉

  10. I’m with you. I wouldn’t go anywhere near it, either. Mob of screaming teenage girls and Lady Gaga? No thank you.

  11. Financially it’s got to be good for the city, but it has to be crazy with traffic and screaming young girls. Hey, I didn’t see Tom Jones on that list. I’m not quite that old yet, but how about Bono and U2.

I appreciate any comments you leave, and thank you for reading my posts and please call back again.
